In the summer of 2009 and winter of 2010, Danielle traveled to Chaclacayo, Peru to volunteer at a home for destitute ill children. The home, El Hogar San Francisco de Asis (St. Francis of Assisi Home), was founded by an American doctor, Anthony Lazzara, for children whose families cannot afford to pay for necessary medical treatments. The children range in age from newborn to 27 years old and suffer from a multitude of illnesses including: leukemia, malnutrition, severe burns and various congenital disorders.
Throughout her two trips, Danielle spent 6 weeks volunteering and living in El Hogar performing a range of activities which included: teaching English, cleaning, assisting with supply shopping, watching children, feeding babies and transporting children to Lima for doctor appointments.
In November 2011, Danielle organized a two week, solo art exhibition at the USF Centre Gallery. Over 500 people visited the show and $1,500 was raised to benefit El Hogar. For more information visit Faces of Hope Art Show
